How to deal With the Iniquity of Poverty in Your Bloodline
Is poverty a branch in your family tree?
Do you struggle with lack of finances?
Do you get to the brink of success only to fail?
Does money slip through your hands?
Let’s look at the roots of your family tree.
You might like to call this poverty a generational curse, but not so fast!
If you played a part in this repeating cycle of poverty, it may be because of iniquity.
Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation. Ex. 34:7
Looks like a curse. Sounds like a curse. But wait, iniquity is not a curse!
Iniquity is a weakness or inclination to do evil that “visits” the next generation. It tempts with the lure of familial sin to continue the torment. This means a person is drawn towards activities that they know are wrong because the weakness within them makes it very difficult to resist the temptation leading them into sin.
That weakness is coded in the family DNA. Just like you inherit your eye color and your hair color from your parents, you also inherit the weakness of iniquity. Think about children of alcoholics. Are all the children in the family alcoholics? Certainly not, but the ones that are tempted with alcohol in that family have a much higher likelihood of becoming an alcoholic because the iniquity is in the blood.
The Iniquity of Poverty
Perhaps you have not connected the pattern of poverty in your family, so let me give you an example of how the demons switch it up to change its appearance. Let’s say your father was a gambler, and he gambled away the family inheritance and left you destitute. When you got the opportunity to go to college on a federal grant, you said, “I will never gamble because I do not want to be poor!”
But while you were in college, you got a credit card that allowed you to have all the things you wanted instantly. Because you grew up poor, this was like water to a thirsty plant. Before too long you were in debt, not by shuffling playing cards but by shuffling high-interest credit cards.
On to the next generation. Your child says, “I will never gamble, and I will never use credit cards because I do not want to be poor.” However, there was no funding left for grad school, and because she did not want to wait and work, she took out student loans and graduated with a more significant debt load than all her ancestors combined.
That spirit of poverty was growing and changing its hook to tempt each generation differently based on their desires to get their needs met quickly rather than waiting and earning the funds first. The weakness of instantaneous gratification perpetuated the iniquity of poverty.
What actually happened is each generation yielded to the weakness. If it was an inherited curse, you could say it was not your fault, and there would be no need to repent, but you did play a part.
Stop, Repent, and Renounce!
It’s time to expose the iniquity by renouncing it and repenting if you have kept it activated.

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior and to yield back the life given to me by You, back to You. Take Control of my life Lord, and let only your will be done in my life from now on. Amen.”
